Yahoo operates a portal that provides the latest news, entertainment, and sports information. The portal also gives users access to other Yahoo services like Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Maps, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Groups and Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo provided social networking services and user-generated content, including products such as My Web, Yahoo Personals, Yahoo 360°, Delicious, Flickr, and Yahoo Buzz. Yahoo closed Yahoo Buzz, MyBlogLog, and numerous other products ,
Yahoo is the most powerful rival for the search giant Google but the company is even more than a Google rival. Although their search technologies are challenging one another, Yahoo provides a lot of products with millions of users from every corner of the world. Take for example Yahoo Messenger, the most popular instant messaging client on the Internet that is currently used as the main solution for Internet communications. That's why I decided to write the most efficient Yahoo products along with their description and more information.

Flickr is an image hosting and video hosting service which Yahoo! acquired on 20th March 2005.[2][3]


Rivals.com is a network of websites that focus mainly on college football and basketball recruiting which Yahoo! acquired in June 2007.[4][5]


Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking website which Yahoo! acquired on 17th May 2013.[6][7]

Yahoo! Answers is a community-driven question-and-answer (Q&A) site or a knowledge market. Yahoo! Answers awards users with points for asking and answering questions, and deducts them for deleting a question or answer, or for being reported by another user.


Yahoo! Autos is a car buying and search engine


Yahoo! Developer Network offers resources for software developers which use Yahoo! technologies and Web services.


Yahoo! Family Accounts is a family safety website that controls the Internet activity of children.


Yahoo! Finance offers financial information, including stock quotes and stock exchange rates.


Yahoo! GeoPlanet offers cartographic and geographic information services both directly and via third-party applications.


Yahoo! Green is a website created by Yahoo! that gathers news, ideas, and discussion about ways to promote an environmentally conscious lifestyle. It includes numerous ideas on conserving natural resources and limiting consumption and waste.


Yahoo! Groups is a free groups and mailing list service which competes with Google Groups. It was formed when Yahoo! acquired eGroups in August 2000. Groups are sorted in categories similar to the Yahoo! Directory. Yahoo! Groups also offers other features such as a photographic album, file storage and a calendar.


Find local businesses and services and view the results on a map. Refine and sort results by distance, topic, or other factors. Read ratings and reviews. Uses hCalendar andhCard microformats, so that event and contact details can be downloaded directly into calendar and address-book applications.


Yahoo Mail is a free email service (with premium options).It was launched in 1997, and, according to comScore, was the third-largest web-based email service with 281 million users as of December 2011. It includes email, calendar, contacts, note taking, and Yahoo! Messenger integration.


Yahoo! Maps offers driving directions and traffic.


Yahoo! Messenger is an instant messaging service first released on 9 March 1998, which competes with AOL Instant Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, ICQand QQ. It offers several unique features, such as IMvironments, custom status messages, and custom avatars. On 13 October 2005, Yahoo! announced that Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger (now Windows Live Messenger) would become interoperable.


Yahoo! Mobile is a mobile website used predominantly in the UK. It offers mobile downloads such as ringtones.


Yahoo! Movies offers showtimes, movie trailers, movie information, gossip, and others.


Yahoo! Music offers music videos and internet radio (LAUNCHcast), a for-fee service known as Yahoo! Music Unlimited and the Yahoo! Music Engine- which has been sold to Rhapsody on Oct. 31st, 2008.


Yahoo! News provides news updates and top stories at Yahoo! News, including world, national, business, entertainment, sports, weather, technology, and weird news.

Yahoo! Research is a research organization established in January 2004 within Yahoo!. Topics within Yahoo! Research include: Internet search, Machine Learning,Microeconomics, Media Experience, and Community Systems.


Yahoo! Search is a search engine powered by Bing since (date).


Yahoo! Search Marketing provides pay per click inclusion of links in search engine result lists, and also delivers targeted ads. The service was previously branded as Overture Services after Yahoo! acquired Overture in 2003.

Yahoo! Shopping is a price comparison service, that allows users to search for products and compare prices of various online stores.


Yahoo! Small Business offers web hosting, domain names and e-commerce services for small businesses.


Yahoo! Smush.it optimizes digital images by removing unnecessary bytes and reducing their file size.


Yahoo! Sports offers sports news, including scores, statistics, and fixtures. It includes a "fantasy team" game.


Yahoo! Thế giới sao offers hottest news from celebrities around the world. It is totally different from Yahoo! News nor Yahoo! Tin tức (a Vietnamese version of Yahoo! News)


An online translator similar to Google Translate.


Yahoo! Travel offers travel guides, booking and reservation services.


Yahoo! TV offers scheduled recordings on Tivo box remotely.


Yahoo! Screen (formerly Yahoo! Video) is a video sharing website on which users could upload and share videos. Yahoo! Video began as an internet-wide video search engine and added the ability to upload and share video clips in June 2006. (The ability for users to upload their own content was removed on December 15, 2010. User-generated content was removed entirely on March 15, 2011.) A re-designed site was launched in February 2008 that changed the focus to Yahoo!-hosted video only.


Yahoo! Voices, formerly Associated Content (AC), is a division of Yahoo! that focuses on online publishing. Yahoo! Voices distributes a large variety of writing through its website and content partners, including Yahoo! News.

Astrid was a task management application for Android which was acquired by Yahoo! on 1st May 2013.[8] It was discontinued on August 5, 2013.[9]


Ask Yahoo was a Q&A platform that was shut down because of the release of Yahoo Answers. On May 16, 2013, A new version of Ask Yahoo called "The New Ask Yahoo" was launched.


Bix was a contest website acquired by Yahoo.


blo.gs is a directory of recently updated weblogs, purchased by Yahoo in June 2005. On April 2009 the service has been transferred from Yahoo to Automattic, the business that runs WordPress.com.


del.icio.us is a social bookmarking website which allows users to store and share bookmarks online. Yahoo bought it on 9 December 2005. The service was sold to AVOS, owned by YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, on April 27, 2011.[10][11]


Fire Eagle is a location brokerage service created by Yahoo Brickhouse and launched at ETech on 5 March 2008.


FoxyTunes was a browser extension which allowed the user to control media players from the browser window. The service was closed on July 1, 2013.[12]


Was a popular web hosting service that offered 15 MB of web space. It was formed in late 1994 as Beverly Hills Internet and allowed users to select a "city" to place their site in, based on the site's content. At one point it was the third-most-browsed site on the World Wide Web[13] It was purchased by Yahoo! in 1999 that implemented changes, such as changing the Terms of Service. Yahoo! closed the service on October 26, 2009 in preference of a strictly premium hosting service, thus deleting some seven million web pages.[14] A great deal of information was lost but many of those sites and pages have been mirrored at the Internet Archive,[15] OOcities.com, and other such databases.[16]


  • IntoNow from Yahoo

IntoNow is a consumer tech company that aims to enhance the way people engage with each other around the shows they love. Based on the SoundPrint platform, IntoNow gives users the ability to almost instantly recognize TV content and then helps them share and discuss those shows with friends, both within the product and through other social streams such as Facebook and Twitter. Discontinued operation on 31 March 2014.[17]


Jumpcut was a service where the uploaded photos and videos can be edited online.


Kelkoo is a shopping search engine which operates in 10 European countries. It was acquired by Yahoo in 2004. It is no longer part of Yahoo since 2008, but a partner.


Rocketmail was a service that competed with Yahoo's own Yahoo Mail product in the 1990s. Yahoo acquired the service and later closed it; however, in 2008, Yahoo! Mail allowed users to create email accounts with "rocketmail.com".


Upcoming was a social event calendar which Yahoo! acquired on 5 October 2005 (formerly upcoming.org). Discontinued 30th April 2013.[18][19]


Wretch was a Taiwanese social networking service acquired by Yahoo. Discontinued 26th December 2013.[20]


Closed April 21, 2011.[21]


Yahoo 360° was a social networking site and blog host. Since its launch on 29 March 2005, it has gained over 2 million members. It was invite-only until 24 June 2005, and then became available to all users above 13. Yahoo! 360 was closed on July 13, 2009.


Yahoo Assistant was a browser helper object for Internet Explorer. It was developed by Beijing 3721 Technology and originally called 3721 Internet Assistant, but was renamed Yahoo Assistant after Yahoo acquired Beijing 3721 Technology. Yahoo Assistant blocks pop-ups and removes Internet history information. However, it is regarded as spywareor malware by Microsoft AntiSpyware, Panda AntiVirus and similar security programs.


Yahoo Auctions was an online auction site created to compete against auction sites such as eBay. Yahoo Auctions never gained the popularity of market leader eBay in the U.S. and Canada; the main Yahoo Auctions service shut down on June 16, 2007. Yahoo Auctions still exist in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan. In Japan, Yahoo! has a 33% stake in Yahoo Japan and does not own the service outright. This service also brought the Australia SOLD.com.au site from Fairfax Holdings' media business F2.


  • Yahoo Avatars

Yahoo Avatars allows users to create personalized character images, also known as avatars, which are displayed on Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Answers.


Yahoo Babel Fish was a translation service.


Yahoo Briefcase was a free file hosting service. It closed on March 30, 2009. Premium users have been fully refunded.


The Yahoo! Directory was a web directory which at one time rivaled DMOZ in size. The directory was Yahoo!'s first offering. It was a human-edited directory, and cost $299 (USD) to "suggest" a site be included.[22]


Yahoo Gallery was a directory of applications built by third-party developers using Yahoo! technologies. It was shut down on July 14, 2009.


Yahoo Games allows users to play games, such as chess, billiards, checkers and backgammon, against each other. Users can join one of various rooms and find players in these rooms to play with. Most of the games are Java applets, although some require the user to download the game, and some games are single-player. Yahoo! acquired a one person effort called ClassicGames.com in 1997, which became Yahoo Games.[citation needed] Yahoo closed the majority of it's online gaming on 31 March 2014.[23]


A once popular Java based phone application with access to most of Yahoo! services was closed down on January 12, 2010.


  • Yahoo Greetings

Yahoo Greetings was an e-card service. One of the features was that you could upload your own photo to use as the card image. Now, on the U.S. and Canadian Yahoos, the Greetings link simply redirects to American Greetings.


Yahoo HotJobs provided tools and advice to job seekers. Now it is owned by Monster.


Yahoo Kickstart was a new professional network with a distinct purpose: To build a community of college students, recent grads, employers, professionals, and alumni, where people can connect and discover internships or jobs, or solicit career development advice and mentorship.


Allowed users to broadcast videos in real time. It was closed on December 3, 2008.


Yahoo Mash was a social network that allowed other users to edit any page.


Yahoo Meme was a beta social service, similar to the popular social networking site Twitter. Discontinued on May 25, 2012.


  • Yahoo Music Unlimited and Yahoo! Music Jukebox

Premium services offered by Yahoo. Yahoo Music Jukebox was the final product of Yahoo! Music Engine which was offered to users with embedded support of Yahoo Music Unlimited, which Yahoo acquired from MusicMatch. It was later sold to Rhapsody on 31, Oct. 2008, a leading company owned by Real Networks providing fee based music subscription service.


Yahoo Personals was an online dating service with both free and paid versions. However, the free service was limited, as only paying users couldn contact users they meet through Yahoo Personals and exchange contact information. Discontinued July 21, 2010, with users referred to Match.com.


Yahoo Photos was a photo sharing service similar to Flickr, which Yahoo acquired. Users had unlimited storage, but only JPG photographs were allowed. Users can categorize and upload their photographs to albums they have created. Users can set various access levels for albums, ranging from public to private. Yahoo Photos closed in 2007. Photos can be moved with other photo hosts, including Flickr.


  • Yahoo Player

Yahoo Player is a discontinued computer based media player that was designed by Yahoo. The underlying technology was based on Microsoft's Windows Media Player and was similar to other competing media players such as MusicMatch or Winamp.[24][25]


Yahoo Podcasts was a beta service that allows users to search for and view podcasts. The podcast service was discontinued in November 2007 due to declining popularity and implemented into the Yahoo audio search.


  • Yahoo Remote

Yahoo Remote was a JavaScript based "remote control" implemented as a popup window that included links to Yahoo services. The service was closed in 1999.


Yahoo Tech offered reviews and advice for buying and using electronics, but was closed down on March 11, 2010, with some residual features moved to a technology themed section of Yahoo News.


Yahoo Widgets was a cross-platform desktop widget runtime environment. The software was previously distributed as 'Konfabulator' until it was acquired by Yahoo! and rebranded 'Yahoo Widgets' and made available for free. On 2nd March 2012 it was announced that Yahoo would be closing down support for the Yahoo Widget Engine and closing the Yahoo Widget Gallery altogether. Yahoo's reason for closure was twofold, the need to replace the older servers that support the gallery and the refocussing of resources on the development of the Yahoo! Connected TV widget platform.


The New Ask Yahoo is a new version of the deactivated Ask Yahoo. The New Ask Yahoo was launched on May 16, 2013.


Yahoo Axis was a browser addon.


Yahoo Bookmarks is a private bookmarking service. All Users from Yahoo MyWeb were transferred to it.


IndexTools was acquired by Yahoo! and re-branded as 'Yahoo! Web Analytics'.


Social networking services as the replacement for Yahoo 360°. Popular in Vietnam.


Yahoo Voice was formerly known as Dialpad. It is a Voice over IP PC-PC, PC-Phone and Phone-to-PC service.


Yahoo Publisher Network is an advertising program, which is currently in beta and only accepts United States publishers.


Yahoo Kids is a children's version of the Yahoo! portal. It also offers some online safety tips.


Koprol, since 25 May 2010 called Yahoo Koprol, is an Indonesian social networking service, allowing users to connect based on location. Mobile users can use the site as a positioning service, without the need for a GPS receiver. Once logged in, users can see other members who were in the same location.
